International Overdose Awareness Day
International Overdose Awareness Day is Thursday, August 28th. Alcohol and Drug Services (ADS) along with the Guilford Coalition on Medication Education, Detection, and Safety will be sponsoring a Candlelight Vigil and Balloon Release to commemorate those whose lives have been lost due to drug overdose.
If you would like to commemorate someone that you lost to an overdose or support those in recovery from substance abuse, then please join us at 301 E. Washington St. (the parking lot across from the Depot) at 7:00 p.m. on the 28th.
Overdose on prescription medications and illicit street drugs has been on the rise in the Piedmont Triad community as well as across the country. It is important to raise awareness of this disturbing trend and to share the news with others that overdose is preventable.
Thank you for supporting this cause and for actively doing what you can to properly eliminate unused prescription medications and to promote alcohol/drug treatment and recovery in North Carolina!
In the recent news segment below, ADS Prevention Consultant Janet Riley-Wright and Jeff Pruitt of Partnership for Community Care speak to News 2 about overdose prevention.
